Collaborative and individualized treatment approach

Pediatric Physical Therapy services

We offer comprehensive physical therapy evaluations, addressing the concerns of the family or patient, which may encompass various aspects such as strength, range of motion, balance, posture, mobility, endurance, coordination, and acquisition of gross motor milestones. Our evaluations utilize appropriate outcome measures to establish baseline data and track progress throughout therapy.

Treatment plans are tailored to the individual, targeting specific concerns and impairments identified during the evaluation process. We provide home exercises and family education to support continued progress. Follow-up treatment sessions are available at a location of your choice, whether it be at home, workplace, sports complex, park, and more.

"Provided [our clinic] with the tools specific to our unique needs."
"Dr. Meghan Owens worked with our leadership team and saw the need to develop a curriculum for the purpose of training the clinical managers in areas of Coaching and Employee Development. Additionally, she developed a method for assessing productivity in the unique area of pediatric practice. Meghan produced a reference manual, created multiple training webinars and workshops and personally provided thorough trainings for our group to provide us with the tools specific to our unique needs."
"She is able to share her expertise and collaborate with teammates"
"Working with Meghan is always a positive experience for all team members involved. She is able to share her expertise and collaborate with teammates, families, and clients in a courteous manner to help her clients achieve their desired outcomes."
"We requested Meghan as our therapist, as she had been recommended"
"In the spring of 2022 we received a difficult diagnosis for our in utero baby, and temporarily moved our family out of state for specialized care. When returning home to Roanoke, we were instructed to connect with the city’s Early Intervention program and begin PT when our son, Ryland, was three months old. We requested Meghan as our therapist, as she had been recommended by our pediatric orthopedic physician."
"Patient, professional and simply a joy to be around."
"Coach Meghan (as our family affectionately refers to her) is intuitive, knowledgeable, patient, professional and simply a joy to be around. She has been an advocate, believer, and motivator to Ryland, and an indispensable resource to our family. There are many factors why our son has excelled in his first 18 months of life, but we have no doubt that Meghan is one of them. We are grateful for her support, and highly recommend her to any family seeking physical therapy services for their child."
"Meghan has a passion for connecting children with Early Intervention Services, allowing them to flourish and thrive."
"Her screening process is efficient, organized, and thoughtful. She fosters an easy connection with each child. Her communication with families is thoughtful and compassionate. Meghan and her services are a valued addition to any child’s care team.""

Telehealth

Telehealth offers physical therapy evaluations and treatment in the convenience of your own home.

It utilizes a HIPAA-compliant platform and is available across the state of VA. This option is particularly beneficial for families with children who have decreased immune systems, as it eliminates the need to travel to a clinic during cold and flu season. Additionally, most diagnoses can be effectively addressed through telehealth.

Early Intervention

Early Intervention is a program that serves children aged birth-to-three, along with their families, who either show a developmental delay or have a medical condition that might affect their ability to acquire age-appropriate developmental skills. The therapy takes place in the child’s natural environment, which could be their home, childcare center, or even a playground. This program follows a parent coaching model, where families are taught strategies to help their children further develop and acquire skills. Importantly, the therapy utilizes only items that are available in the family’s home to promote carryover of skills during daily routines.

Aquatic Therapy services

Aquatic Therapy involves performing exercises in a warm-water pool, utilizing principles of buoyancy, density, hydrostatic pressure, heat, resistance, and counterbalance to gravity. This therapy decreases the amount of weight a patient needs to support, making it a lower impact option that is easier on the joints. It also provides resistance which is great for strength training. Additionally, it can be used to challenge balance and help maintain and develop balance reactions. The use of buoyancy enables patients to perform movements that they may be unable to do on land. Aquatic Therapy is particularly beneficial for training post-injury, as it helps maintain and increase endurance while reducing the risk of injury or re-injury. It is a safe way to work on gait training and other weightbearing activities, especially when patients have weightbearing restrictions. Furthermore, it promotes increased circulation and decreases swelling and edema. The application of heat in this therapy helps reduce high muscle tone, making movement easier, while the cooler temperature of the pool aids in increasing low muscle tone, providing increased stability. Aquatic Therapy is suitable for various diagnoses, including but not limited to developmental delay, high and low tone, balance impairments, neurological disorders, decreased strength and endurance, spina bifida, AMPS, and cerebral palsy, among others.

Screening services

We offer screenings for both preschool-aged children and athletes. For preschool screenings, we visit your preschool and conduct developmental assessments for children aged 0-6. Our evaluations cover gross motor skills, fine motor skills, sensory integration, and speech and language skills. We work closely with your staff and the families to address any concerns, and we spend time discussing each child with the teaching staff to ensure accuracy of our findings.

The screenings are done individually, and each child is observed interacting with their peers in the classroom setting. Further assessment will be provided if necessary, and the results of the screening, along with recommendations for further evaluation, will be shared with the teaching staff and families.

When it comes to sports screenings, we come to your gym or practice location to provide assessments specific to your sport. These screenings evaluate strength, balance, range of motion, coordination, agility, and endurance skills. They help identify potential problem areas that may put your athletes at risk of injury. Baseline data is collected in case of injury, enabling us to make recommendations regarding the athlete’s safe return to play, especially in the case of concussions. Like preschool screenings, we collaborate with your coaching staff and families to address any concerns and ensure accurate findings. Screenings are conducted individually, and each athlete is observed while participating with their team. If a potential problem area is identified, we provide individualized exercise programs tailored to the athlete. The results of the screening, along with recommendations for further evaluation, will be shared with the coaching staff and families.
